ROBERT GARNER, FOUNDER BOARD PRESIDENT

It is our responsibility to ensure that our community succeeds.  That's why I founded the African American National Spelling Bee Championships, Inc.  "By Any Means Necessary!"

JACQUELINE TERRELL, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Since 2010, the African American National Spelling Bee Championships, Inc. has been changing the lives of black students, and we look forward to empowering more students in the areas of spelling, reading and writing.  

GARY ELKINS, BOARD MEMBER

Gary Elkins is a Houston businessman and former member of the Texas House of Representatives. He is a long-time sponsor of the AANSBC. 

FRANKIE HILL, BOARD MEMBER

Frankie Hill has worked with youth for 30+ years at Fort Bend County Juvenile Probation Department.  He serves as Sergeant at Arms of the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice (NABCJ) and is a long-time supporter of the AANSBC. 

CARROLL G. ROBINSON, ADVISORY BOARD

Carroll G. Robinson is an Associate Professor at the Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs at Texas Southern University (TSU) where he has served as Associate Dean of External Affairs.

HOWARD JEFFERSON, ADVISORY BOARD

 Howard Jefferson is the former president of the NAACP Houston Chapter and former Board Member of the National NAACP.  He works to accelerate the well-being, education, and economic security of African Americams in Houston and across our country. 

KAREN CARTER RICHARDS, ADVISORY BOARD

Karen Carter Richards is a native Houstonian and is the CEO and Publisher of the Forward Times Publishing Company, the South’s largest independently owned and published newspaper. 

DONNELL COOPER, ADVISORY BOARD

Donnell Cooper is past President of The Greater Houston Frontiers Club, a national nonprofit organization that has provided more than $2 million in local scholarships to students in Harris County. He is known for his exceptional fundraising and establishing community partnerships.
